Drumming is in my blood and has been for as long as I can remember. My mom always likes to say that I was tapping since I was a toddler.
My dad plays guitar and tried to sway me in that direction, but drumming always prevailed.
As a pre-teen I practically lived at Guitar Center where I could bang away on their drums as much as I wanted.
At some point it made much more sense for me to have a set at home.
Two drum sets and many broken sticks, heads and cymbals later, I still find that drums prevail.
I play by ear but also read music and have been involved with percussion in both middle and high school.
At Murrieta Valley High, percussion covered everything from drums and drumline to bass, piano, marimba, bells and so much more.
Performing at football games, band competitions and jazz recitals became was a regular part of my routine.
At the same time, I was fortunate enough to have private drum lessons from former Mobile Music Teacher alumni Aaron Leitz.
Now all that experience has come full circle and it’s my turn to bring my knowledge and experience to the Mobile Music Teacher team.
My style is pretty laid back, though my approach to teaching is focused.
I like to get to know who I’m working with; how they hear the music, what makes them excited to pick up the sticks and where they’d like to go with their drumming.
Each student is unique in how they hear, interpret, and play.
I feel that it’s important to be flexible and creative in in my approach on an absolutely individual basis.
